Warning: Most visits are trouble free.
Political demonstrations are expected to take place in Budapest and other cities during September, especially around Kossuth Ter and near the Parliament. These follow on from a series of protests last autumn and earlier this year where, in some cases, generally peaceful demonstrations ended in violence as a result of the actions of a small minority of protesters. As a precaution you should avoid all demonstrations.
In January 2007, Hungarian authorities confirmed the existence of the H5N1 (Avian Influenza) virus strain in five dead geese in south-east Hungary. No human deaths or infections have been reported. The Hungarian authorities have announced that strict biosecurity measures are being enforced in accordance with EU legislation.
Hungary shares with the rest of Europe a threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate and against civilian targets.
